My photography helps me express my inner thoughts and feelings far better than I can achieve with words.
In creating my images I decide on a concept before ever taking a photo, it all starts with an idea that translates into an image, a story. I find inspiration from pieces of my past, things that I have experienced, and things that I see all around me. Once I have an idea I write a short story about the concept and what it means to me. Next comes the sketch to get a better idea of the overall look and feel. Finally I get to the image taking, things like subjects, props, and lighting. The final step is putting the pieces together to create my idea in a single photographic image. I mostly use photoshop for this process because I can do every edit that I need to with the program, which keeps my workflow simple. I find that printing the final image is the best way to view my work.
My current work is much more conceptional and fantasy based compared to my prior work. I am exploring mental health issues with my images such as, depression, PTSD, and anxiety as well. I feel it's important to bring awareness to these types of illnesses. I have used photography as a healing tool and I hope to help others heal with it as well.
