It all started with post audio...I mean, I went to school learn more about sound, recording, mixing and mastering, but came out shooting and producing video. In fact, that's where I make most of my income as a freelancer. Shooting everything from commercials to films to concerts. And it doesn't end there. Early this year, I mixed and mastered a locally produced feature in 5.1 after recording all the sound during production. I love being on set. I love production. It's very much a team sport. All these moving pieces, dependent on the roles of each department, all working together to design an ad or to make art. It's beautiful.

In the course of shooting video, I met a lot of amazing people, especially photographers. Some of my most memorable imagery is that of painters, the original portrait takers. Light as we know it is very different than it was 400 years ago. The way painters used light, or lack of, is much different than what we see today in our often bright commercial world. Additionally, black & white masters like Penn and Karsh, have had a huge influence on how and what I shoot.

Since most of my work is commercial video, photography became my outlet for creativity. I started shooting a few years ago and it's been one of best and most natural additions to my life.

Personally, I love shooting b&w, hard shadows, with a lot of dead space. The whole idea of IDIE WEST was to create an attitude driven visual identity. I recently wrapped up a freelance gig as a retoucher editing model and product photos so I'm putting it altogether.

I'm open to shoot nearly anything but I won't just shoot anything. My schedule stays pretty full but has a lot of flexibility so shoots, collaborations even, need to be worth my time and yours. I have a shared studio space downtown Indianapolis where I shoot most of my work, f140.
