When hairstylist Milroy Harried talks about his love for doing hair, he always knew in his heart, even as a child, that it was his "mane " destiny. Harried will tell you that besides his actress mother, "doing hair" was the biggest love of his life. But now, Harried, who has been a hair-stylist since 1989, talks about his new love-talk show hostess Mother Love.

 

Working for Love on her nationally syndicated, one hour, "Forgive or Forget" daytime program was love at first sight said Harried. It's obvious that Mother Love loves the way Harried styles her hair: she nominated him for the 1998 season Daytime Emmy award for "Best Hairstylist on a Daytime Program" (to be awarded this spring).

 

Harried was introduced to Mother Love by her fashion stylist and Harried’s friend Llewellyn Jenkins. The job originally was for an assistant hairstylist position. But as chance would have it, on the first day that Harried was working as an assistant- he was asked by Mother Love to do her hair that evening for a charity event. During that fated session, Harried said, he and Mother Love really “clicked”. Three months later, Harried became her Iead hairstylist.

 

But Mother Love isn’t the only lady celebrity in love with Harried! He counts “Showtime at the Apollo” hostess Kiki Shepard and audience warm-up hostess Janice Garcia, jazz, aerobic video instructor and personall trainer Donna Richardson, new Sony recording artist Lorena Martinez (heralded as the new “Selena”), BET’s Planet Grove hostess Rachel Stuart and R&B singer Adrianna Evans among his clients.

 

Harried has also worked on male celebrities like Danny Glover, singing group Zhane and R&B singer Will Downing. Represented by Ken Barboza & Associates, Harried stresses that if you want a celebrity clientele, its vital that a stylist network.

 

So what does Married attribute most of his success to: his natural love for styling hair, solid haircutting training, ambition and of course, Avlon products.

 

As a child, Harried said, "I always wanted to do hair, but in my family, all of the males were pretty much athletes…I just had this thing for touching hair…My parents always told me to stop touching hair and I had to do it on the sneak tip…I use to love to do my younger sister’s hair.”

 

"My mother was a professional actress. So when I was young, she would go out for auditions or on set for commercials…I would see my mother-now she was already beautiful-but she would transform herself into this exceptionally beautiful creature. I was just fascinated how she would do little things with her hair that would make such a big difference."
