About Me

Jazzmine Williams, also known as “Phoenix” was born and raised in New York City. Growing up she was always involved in extracurricular activities like dancing, singing, modeling, and acting. Phoenix’s mother was a professional cosmetologist who recognized her daughters beauty and potential. She encouraged her to model which led to features in hairstyle magazines like “Hair Expressions International Hair Magazine”. At a young age she developed Alopecia Areata (an auto immune disease where your immune system attacks your hair follicles). Her life changed after her diagnosis, she felt insecure and ashamed, she felt her dreams of becoming an actress or model weren’t a reality. Uncomfortable and very self conscious Phoenix felt judged because of her hair loss. In 2016, after the passing of her grandmother Phoenix reached one of her lowest points in life. The only support she had was her family who instilled in her confidence and determination. However, Phoenix is an optimist and she knew one day that she would have to make a change in her life. Her grandmothers death had a profound impact on Phoenix, she wanted to take life by the horns and started doing research on cosmetic tattoos. She found scalp micropigmentation, a process by which thousands of tiny dots are tattooed into a persons hairline to give the illusion of hair. Upon visiting several practices and meeting several people she discovered Jonathan Gerow. Jonathan made her feel extremely comfortable and confident about the decision she was making because he’s an expert in his field. Phoenix came to terms with the fact that in order for her to accept her alopecia, she would have to embrace being bald. At first, everyone asked why she cut it off and friends made judgmental statements. It was as though a woman couldn’t shave her head without being stressed or going through chemotherapy. It was a little frustrating for Phoenix to hear ignorant responses regarding her decision, but she remained unwavering and educated her friends on the social constructions like gender roles which have oppressed and kept women from equal treatment by their counterparts. Phoenix realized woman are beautiful beyond their hair and that confidence was even more endearing . She let go of the idea that her hair made her a beautiful woman. She became confident and comfortable in her own skin which is the only thing that’s important. As of today she’s a bi-coastal model and actress following her dreams. One day she hopes to help girls who look like her become more confident and happy with looking different and to make a difference in the world. Phoenix has modeled for print, runway, commercial, and editorials. Phoenix will never limit herself again, and like the Phoenix of Greek mythology she has been born again and has risen from the ashes of her old self. She is strong, bold, talented, educated, and of course beautiful.

Apart from modeling with the hair international magazine for hair, she is also the lead female model for Jonathan Gerow’s SMP brand and was a previous model & creative director for Creative Faces Models. Phoenixx has modeled in music videos for artist Rotimi and 718spank. She’s taken part in Fashion Shows like Street Fashion Week 2018, Underground Artistry 5th Annual Fashion Show 2018, Fashion Nights Vol 1,2 & 3. Phoenix has also modeled for Melissa Ford known as (Mdollas) hat collection. While attending Hunter College and majoring in Theatre, Phoenixx landed roles in theatrical plays such as  “Angels in America”,  “The Dumbwaiter” & “Cows of War”. Currently Phoenixx bi-coastel is a freelance artist
