About Me

I started shooting landscapes about 2 years ago and have moved into portraits with speedlights and strobes during the past year. I am rapidly building up my portfolio of work with all sorts of different models.

I am interested in creating classic 'beauty' portraits as well as unusual, moody compositions using people who do not always look like typical models. I shoot a variety of different 'styles.' I am fond of both highly dramatic lighting effects (e.g. a lot of accent lighting) and much softer, more glamorous looks. I would say that I am still finding my perspective as a photographer, and that I will always retain my desire to experiment.

I enjoy shooting outdoors with additional lights, as opposed to just in a studio. This means that I am willing to cart a fair amount of gear around to get the right shot!

I shoot with professional gear. List includes:
Sony A7rii, Sony Zeiss 35mm, Zeiss Batis 85mm, Zeiss Batis 25mm, Wireless TTL HSS speedlights (Flashpoint), Wireless TTL HSS Monolights (Flashpoint), reflectors, large soft boxes, beauty dishes, an 800 watt flicker-free fluorescent for constant lightning, colored LED strips, etc.

I have subscriptions to both Photoshop and Lightroom and am proficient in retouching.

I am willing to make two basic kinds of deals regarding compensation--
Deal 1: If you don't mind my retaining sole copyright to photos, then I am happy to pay you by the half hour, rounded up to the nearest half hour. I can share my typical model-comp rate upon request; it is competitive with what I have seen locally in Omaha. If you live in a city other than Omaha I am willing to (additionally) cover gas or simply meet you in your city. I do have a young dog that needs a lot of exercise and company so I'm somewhat limited in by ability to travel far unless I make prior dogsitting arrangements.

Deal 2: If you want to share copyright, I am happy to work for trade to build both of our portfolios, and will provide you with, in addition to full-size JPEGs of all shots, four retouched raw files from the shoot, two of which are my pick, and two of which are your pick. I will share these files with you via Google Drive. Retouching and sharing will be done within two weeks of any given shoot.

If you'd like to make another deal, let me know; I am a reasonable person and I will entertain your ideas.

I have currently recruited a local stylist to do hair, and I am looking for a makeup artist. If you think you might be that makeup artist, please contact me!

To reach a mutual understanding about any upcoming shoot, I would prefer if we could meet beforehand at a local coffee place to discuss looks / concepts. If meeting is not possible (due to distance, for example), I think Skype is probably an adequate substitute. I welcome chaperones, if you'd like to bring them, but I would like to meet them during the initial conversation so I can build my own comfort level. I will not entertain shooting you in my home studio unless we have at least one session outside of the studio prior.

Personally speaking, I'm meticulous, punctual, and respectful with a quirky sense of humor. I'm well-educated (hold a PhD and an undergraduate degree from a well-respected institution) and conversational. I enjoy photography because I feel it offers me the chance to capture something about the beautiful and strange essence of humanity and because I find the technical aspects challenging and oddly soothing. Photography is not my primary source of income but it is something that I'm serious about pursuing as a source of side-income in the medium to long term.

I value long-term collaborators and if we get along well, I'd love to keep shooting with you. I have more ideas than I have time and I'd love to make you look your best. If you're doing trade with me and you're unsatisfied, I'm willing to keep shooting until we're both happy with the results.

In short: I look forward to working with some of you to make some great art! Ciao
