About Me

My name is Andrew Gilchrist. I'm a writer, director, producer and performer. (IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0318345/)

I'm currently enrolled in the Cal Arts Film Directing program though I have made films before. My first film, SEA PIG (can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/59628199) was an Official Selection of the Seattle International Film Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival, the Provincetown Film Festival, among others, and it won Best Short at the Kansas City FilmFest and the Coney Island Film Festival.

Before venturing into film, I was part of the vibrant avant-garde theatre scene in New York City. I toured as a performer with THE LIFE AND DEATH OF MARINA ABRAMOVIC, featuring Willem Dafoe, conceived by Abramović and Robert Wilson, directed by Wilson, with music by Antony Hegarty. I also performed in Laurie Anderson's video installation, THE GREY RABBIT, which was last seen at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary during January 2012. I am still the producer and associate director of THE SUNDANCE KID IS BEAUTIFUL, a theatrical staging of the legendary EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH librettist and artist Christopher Knowles' early writings, performed by Knowles himself, which toured internationally in 2013, beginning with the world premiere production at the Louvre Museum in Paris and the New York premiere at Performa 13. The legendary Robert Wilson called me "an artist to be watched. His work and his presence as a performer have a mysterious strong, physical power."

I'm here to cast for a new short film I'm making which is going to be truly a special piece of work.

"The Peanut Butter Sisters," a short thesis film for the Cal Arts Film Directing program, which is about four dear and devoted friends who form a sisterhood, a family, a coven, (a cult essentially but of course our characters would never think of it as such), which worships their love for each other.

Important note: It is required of each actor to shave their head on camera.

Synopsis: this will be a beautiful project for three gutsy actors. One of the sisters (Susan Tantamount) contracts cancer and must go through chemotherapy. As a sign of devotion, the other Sisters shave their heads for Susan in a ritual of love and solidarity. When the ritual is completed, however, the Sisters discover another level of their devotion that allows them to see themselves on the astral plane. Director states: "I understand this is a lot to ask of someone to shave their head. I have attached the entire script in order for actors to see that this could be a very special project which duly requires us to shave our heads. I will do it with the actors if it will accurately show my commitment to the project and will make everyone more comfortable."
