About Me

UPDATE: Featured Photographer in the International Lomography magazine @ www.lomography.com/magazine/312742-when-the-camera-becomes-an-extension-of-the-mind-an-interview-with-colin-j-clarke.

I'm primarily a Fine Art photographer, specializing in Black and White, using various film and alternative processes (medium and large format cameras) to create artistic images. I also have high-end digital equipment, although most of my work is with large format film. I have more than 30 years experience in semi professional and professional photography in S E Asia, UK, Germany and the US.

I also work with charcoal and graphite for figure, architecture and the landscape, and I am a sculptor, working with various media. If your interests include modeling for studio work, I'd be very happy to draw or paint you. (Well, not actually paint you … :-) )

I am always interested to hear from models in the South East US (or those visiting) who wish to be part of something creative and artistic - photographic or for studio work. Although classical fine art figure modeling usually involves tasteful nudity, I am not interested in requests/bookings to do shoots for the porn industry.

Model compensation is quite open - most models working in this genre ask for a signed fine art print, and some images on CD/DVD/USB Stick. Others may be shooting on an hourly basis only, and we can work out some arrangement based on that. Models who contact me to shoot images for their portfolios etc., will never be asked for ridiculous fees although, depending on circumstances, I may ask for the cost of materials and any travel costs etc. Usually, I simply prefer to have win-win situations where we each benefit from any arrangement. Art for art's sake. But I do understand that "rent has to be paid" so I am OK with reasonable hourly rates.

I will always need proof of age where appropriate, and a model release. Just standard stuff. We will always meet up for daytime coffee in some public place before any shoot. We both need to make sure the other isn't a fan of the Texas Chain Saw Massacres. :-) I may ask you to be accompanied to the shoot by a friend or you may request it (although I will never agree to the friend becoming the "artistic director".) We can work out the friend/escort thing depending on what style we are shooting, and where.

I can assure you, though, that boyfriends/girlfriends/mothers !!! invariably always dampen the spirit and 'vibe' of a shoot. After a pre-shoot meet up for coffee, if you don't feel comfortable proceeding, simply decline the shoot. That's what I do. The comfort factor works both ways. :-)

I am easy going, and flexible. Although Mon-Thu daytime is preferred, I am often available other days of the week. I travel around the South East often.

If you have an idea for a shoot, or need something offbeat or crazy, just ask me. I've probably done it already, even if you think it is too off the chart or too steamy. Ask. What's the worst that can happen? ;-) If you are interested in studio modeling work, let me know.
