Shibari is originally a binding martial art and was developed in the fifteenth century by the Samurai. It’s name was Hojōjutsu. It was particularly used to tie prisoners. The technique and the degree of sophistication of the knots were dependent on the type of crime committed and the social class of the prisoner. The bondage had to not only prevent it from coming off, but also had to be aesthetic. Moreover, the technique was to remain secret.

When the Samurai disappeared, the Shibari also disappeared and only reappeared in Japan in the 1970s as an aesthetic and erotic art.

Nowadays, it has become accessible in the Western countries and to a wider audience. Despite its use on the BDSM scene and the general perception of a degrading and humiliating art, the followers of Shibari, of which I am a part, live it mainly as an aesthetic, acrobatic and even meditative art. Moreover, the term Kinbaku is often put forward for aesthetic Shibari.

As far as I'm concerned, I discovered the art of ropes during a discussion. I was lucky enough to be able to count on an enthusiastic and motivated woman to start working on this exciting new project! Currently, I work and improve my technique and my experience with a very restricted circle of people, privileging knowledge and complicity to flourish in this discovery ...

Le Shibari est à l’origine un art martial d’encordage et a été développé au XVème siècle par les Samouraïs. Il se nommait alors Hojōjutsu. Il était particulièrement utilisé pour attacher les prisonniers. La technique et le degré de sophistication des noeuds étaient alors dépendants du type de délit commis et de la classe sociale du prisonnier. Le ligotage devait non seulement l’empêcher de se détacher, mais devait également être esthétique. De plus, la technique devait rester secrète.

A la disparition des Samouraïs, le Shibari disparut également pour ne réapparaitre au Japon que dans les années 1970, comme un art esthétique et érotique.

De nos jours, il est devenu accessible en Occident et à un plus large public. Malgré son utilisation sur la scène BDSM et la perception générale d’un art dégradant et humiliant, les adeptes du Shibari dont je fais partie, le vive principalement comme un art esthétique, acrobatique et même méditatif. D’ailleurs, le terme Kinbaku est souvent mis en avant pour du Shibari esthétique.

En ce qui me concerne, j’ai découvert l’art des cordes au hasard d'une discussion. J’ai eu la chance de pouvoir compter dès le début sur une femme enthousiaste et très motivée par ce nouveau projet palpitant et créatif! Actuellement, je travaille et améliore ma technique et mon expérience avec un cercle très restraint de personnes, privilégiant la connaissance et la complicité pour m’épanouir dans cette découverte…
