PROFILE

I have been a photographer for decades with extensive experience in film photography (color and black/white).  I worked in my own darkroom and did my own printing for many years.  Since 2000 I have worked exclusively with digital media and use professional labs for my prints.
While much of my previous work involved non-portraiture subjects, I have recently switched almost exclusively to photographing people as I believe they offer the greatest challenges and artistic rewards.  To be able to capture a subject’s external image while at the same time capturing a bit of their internal personality and complexity is my constant goal.  Each photograph should make the viewer want to be more involved with the subject.
I work with experienced professional models on a compensation basis as well as with aspiring models in TFP arrangements.  Part of what I really enjoy is seeing a model gain experience, improve their techniques and become more familiar with the nuts and bolts of portrait photography.
I shoot both outdoor environmental portraits and in the studio.  Traditional styles (headshots, fashion, and glamour) are always fine, but I’m also excited to do specialized work such as dance, yoga, costumes, musicians, sports, etc.
Finally, I believe that photography is inherently a creative art form.  My preference is to utilize the power of the “digital darkroom” to achieve portraits that are unique and artistic, while still being true to the subject’s reality.
