About Me

GIVING BACK FOR THE MANY WHO HAVE HELPED ME ALONG THE WAY.
Newbies welcomed, I was a newbie once.  Of course I pay inexperienced people because their time is money and should be compensated.

il maestro de una luz is Italian for "The MASTER of one light."

In the tradition of Benny Bufano, the Italian sculptor popular in the 1950s and 1960s and who became famous in San Francisco as "il Maestro de una lino," the master of one line, I want to perfect the technique of photography with simply one light source. His simplicity and easy flow was true genius. I do not profess to be that master, but that is my goal.

My first camera was a simple .35mm that was a high school graduation gift in 1964. I have studied art and photography as art since then.  Formal studies included a long period of shooting only with clumsy sheet film cameras that taught me economy and I have actually used flash bulbs on paid commissions because of the limitations of early electronic flash.

I have always been fascinated by the human form and that will remain my subject.  Creating tasteful art is my goal.  I tend not to want a lot of props or artifacts to interrupt the lighting or the lines.

A NOTE ABOUT MY LISTS:  If you see photos with a level of nudity that makes you uncomfortable, remember, these are shots I like and may want to refer to as inspiration.

MY WORK is always quite tasteful and will never show exposed genital areas, ever.  I ask that you be willing to trust me, be willing to walk onto the set nude if asked, and I will make you happy with the result.

"This photographer helped me to feel valued though I felt there was a gap in our experience levels. It took some time for me to warm up but he was very patient with me and was able to work with my limitations to capture some creative and beautiful shots. Would very much like to work with him again." Read less
