About Me

Hi,

My name is Fred. I've been a professional photographer for almost fifty years. First shooting publicity pictures for colleges and universities in New England, then in a small commercial studio in New Hampshire where I shot product and architectural subjects. And for the last thirty years I’ve been a fish-paparazzi, taking underwater pictures of beautiful reefs and the fascinating critters that live in the ocean. Usually in far away places like Australia and Indonesia. My underwater pictures have sold to many of the world’s most prestigious magazines including National Geographic, Smithsonian, and the publications of the National Wildlife Federation. And similar magazines in Europe

Over the last few years I’ve seen a few pictures in advertisements and in catalogues promoting fashion wear and cosmetic products that were taken underwater. I’d like to shoot for those types of clients. But first I need to build a portfolio of beautiful and imaginative pictures to give those potential clients the confidence to hire me. I would also like to work a few talented ladies who are interested in underwater modeling. Underwater is one of the genres listed on Model Mayhem, and although many models have listed "underwater" as one of their genres, very few of them have any underwater images in their portfolios. If you would like to add underwater photos to your portfolio I can help you.

I’m also interested in some of the other above-water photography genres listed on MM and have a home studio with professional strobe lighting equipment including soft boxes and umbrellas to provide professional quality lighting.

If we haven’t worked together before, I would like to meet you before we do any shooting together. I will come to you at a place and time that is convenient for you. In a pre-shoot meeting we can get acquainted and discuss our requirements such as your compensation, model releases, genres and escorts.

I prefer to work with models with whom I can arrange a combination PFT and monetary compensation for their time and efforts. The pictures can in the form of both digital copies of what we shoot together and some real prints. I will have some ideas for creating pictures I want and hope you will also have some ideas for pictures that you want and that you hope will further your career. I will work just as hard on your ideas as on my own. So  talking is important.

I believe that it is difficult to get really excellent results in just one shooting session and prefer to work with models with whom I have several shooting sessions so that we can make the creative and imaginative pictures that will help advance both of our careers. And if I am able to get the kinds of commercial assignments I am hoping for and the client allows me to have some choice of the model(s) he hires for the job, I will recommend the models who helped me get there.

If you want to bring a friend, an escort, with you to our shooting sessions, especially the first session, I encourage you to do that. It is important that you feel safe and comfortable while you are working with me, which is also the reason for a pre-shoot meeting.

My full name is Fred Bavendam. I live in Sarasota.  My email is [email protected]. If you would like to see more of my work feel free to google me. You can go to my US photo agency which is Minden Pictures and do a search under my name. The stories I have sold to National Geographic are Manatees (Sept 84), Giant Octopus (Mar 91), Cuttlefish (Sept 95), Crinoids (Dec 96) and Frogfish (July 98).

Really beautiful pictures don’t often just happen. They are usually the result of a lot of thinking and hard work.

If you are interested in the underwater genre, or just interested in working with me to improve your portfolio, lets get together and make pictures.

Concerning the covid 19 situation. I have had the two primary injections of the Moderna vaccine and two additional booster shots. So working together should be safe for both of us.

Fred
