TL:DR: Bright natural portraits; Photographer, writer, sailor, father and Québecois.

With 20 years of photography experience, I’ve done a little bit of every kind of photography, but what I keep coming back to is bright natural portraits. From my hometown of Quebec City to my current home of Victoria, I’ve photographed beautiful landscapes across Canada, Chile, Afghanistan and Antarctica; however, while landscapes are great to look at, we connect with people.

I enjoy bright and colourful portraits that focus on the face, and the eyes, but working with so many wonderful creatives has me constantly exploring new styles, looks and techniques. My first real job working for a newspaper taught me to cut the fluff from the story and eliminate the dead space in the photo.

I consider myself an ambassador to the creative community in Victoria and often suggest other photographers to new models and models to new photographers. Helping makeup artists with their portfolios has lead to some of my favourite content.

When it comes to boudoir, I enjoy making the model look their best, whether that be shy, or flirtatious, but the best shots come from power. A piercing gaze back at the viewer of the image; I find that it exudes confidence. This can be difficult for first time models, so I encourage practice ahead of a shoot, but will help pose and provide feedback. Often this means performing the pose myself. For male models this is easier, for female models I’m told I look quite silly, but if a laugh at my expense gets you a great shot, then it is worth it.
