My first experience with modeling came when I was at Vanderbilt University for my undergraduate degree. A student-run organization was hosting a fashion show, partnering with local boutique stores in Nashville and nearby. My interest in free clothes led me to become one of the models for both runway and content. Unexpectedly, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience but didn't think much of it overall in the midst of my student life. At the time, I dove head-deep exclusively into a career in business, but I do want to start changing that now.

I've always been into the aesthetics of the human body but my insecurities and fear of judgment prevented me from considering being a model. To me, modeling is an art form like dancing; the difference is that the latter takes a dynamic approach while the former takes a static one. But deeper than my intrinsic enjoyment in such an art form burns a desire to inspire aspiration.

Coming from an Asian family, talking about emotions was avoided like the plague. As a result, navigating my emotions in childhood was tough, not to mention in adolescence. It was only until college that I started to better understand myself due to exposure to Brene Brown, a renowned researcher in the field of social work. Learning about her and her research really allowed me to gain insights not only into intrapersonal emotions but also into interpersonal ones.

As such, my hope is that I would eventually be able to create an artistic model of myself where someone, somewhere, somehow, resonates with some emotion in my work. And my hope is that that emotional conversation, that connection, will inspire emotional curiosity, but more importantly, start an aspirational fire of courage.
