About Me

Mara the Hip-Hop Socialite got her first taste of the hip-hop world when she accepted an offer to work on a temporary basis in the promotions department of Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records in 2006. It was there where she first began putting her experiences with the industry onto paper, utilizing the writing skills she acquired while earning her Juris Doctor degree from the law school at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC.

In 2008, Mara embarked on a new career journey in the field of journalism. Since that time, the Wilmington, NC native has interviewed and written stories on what reads like a who’s who of hip-hop and R&B, including hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Caz, Jadakiss, Maino, J. Holiday, Day 26 and the late, great Guru, among others. Her work has appeared on multiple websites, including HHLO.net, YoRaps.com, GlobalGrind.com, CRUNK-Magazine.com, and BlackCityMag.com, and in magazines such as Parle and City Scenes Magazine, the latter of which she serves as features editor. Her own website, TheHipHopSocialite.com, has been referenced by AllHipHop.com, UrbanInSite.com, and HipHopWeekly.com since its inception in April 2009. In early 2010, she joined the writing staffs of DrJays.com and RollingOut.com, contributing celebrity news and gossip, interviews, and red carpet coverage to both. The summer of 2010 saw another milestone in the career of the hip-hop media personality, as her column, “The Adventures of the Hip-Hop Socialite…”, made its debut in One Ten Magazine, and will soon expand into the soon-to-be launched GGurls Magazine.

After spending a year hosting the celebrity gossip segment of New York City’s X-TV, Mara redirected her focus on launching a career in radio. In early 2009, she joined Street Disciplez Radio, the most controversial and headline grabbing radio show on the Internet. As a result of some of the stories broken on the show, Mara’s face and the faces of her fellow hosts have been seen on virtually every major urban website on the Net on multiple occasions in the last year alone, including TheYBF.com, Thisis50.com, Bossip.com, SOHH.com, AllHipHop.com, and NecoleBitchie.com. Now syndicated on the web, Street Disciplez Radio currently airs live every Monday night from 10 pm to 12 am on HipHopWired.com (after the "Star & Buc Wild" show), HipHopWorld.com, HHLO.net, DaMatrixStudios.com and GGurls.com, to name a few, and for this southern belle living in the big city, it’s only the beginning.
