A Little About Hey Sailor! Hats….

All Hey Sailor! Hats are painstakingly hand made from new, vintage and antique materials. All of my hats are absolutely unique and one-of-a-kind, I try to utilize as many lovely old findings and bits and bobs as possible! The feathers, veil, sequins and other little what-not’s are hand sewn onto the hats to insure durability and all of the hat bases are constructed by hand from buckram or purchased new.

Much of the inspiration for my hats comes from the glamorous era of the 1930’s and 1940’s. I cannot help but begin to salivate at the sight of a pert little tilt hat with gratuitously flowing veil and hand crocheted snood. I was first inspired to begin making hats when I found myself singing for the band Ragwater Revue. Although there was quite an array of vintage hats to choose from on eBay none of them had the more whimsical qualities I so longed for. I began collecting antique millinery feathers and trim along with taxidermy alligator heads, small wooden ships and all sorts of other vintage oddities to adorn my hats with. At each of our shows I continuously received compliments on my creations and more than a few offers to purchase them on the spot right off my head! With that as motivation, during my spare time I went to work creating hats so I could offer them to gals and guys seeking a more unique, one-of-a-kind item…And so began Hey Sailor! Hats!
