About Me

CRISTOPHER LAPP BIOGRAPHY:

“I’ve stopped counting the number of times I was almost killed.” An odd statement coming from a man who spends his life documenting the upper echelons of fashion and entertainment. But none-the-less true. In order to capture our cultural zeitgeist, narrow escapes have become Lapp’s modus operandi. Just ask the Milanese mafia, the Kenyan boarder patrol, a few super models, or a certain black rhino in Namibia.

Voted by Frontier Magazine as one of Los Angeles’ 25 brightest talents, celebrity and fashion photographer Christopher Lapp has photographed some of the world’s most illustrious celebrities – Meryl Streep, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Giorgio Armani, and Karl Lagerfeld to name a few. His advertising work has appeared in Vogue, GQ, and “W” magazines. His career began with hands-on training in Milan, working in front of and behind the camera for several well-known fashion photographers. In 2004, Cristopher returned to Italy for an intensive post-baccalaureate in fashion photography at Adff/CLICK UP. Apprenticeships with the National Geographic and American Film Institutes were the precursors to Cristopher’s extensive photographic coverage of all seven continents. His portraits are collected by some of Hollywood’s most elite, including Sir Elton John and the late Michael Jackson.

As the tools of the trade changed dramatically during the digital age, Lapp’s vision has too evolved. He shares this in his book “Instant Gratification – 21st Century Art & the Mobile Phone Camera.” A small tome that involved more than 26,000 mobile phone images, eight dead phones and was six years in the making. Later this year, Lapp’s much-anticipated “Self Gratification – Nature vs. Nurture” will be released, paying homage to the photographic phenomenon affectionately known as “selfies.”

Cristopher is a popular guest speaker whose recent engagements include KCRW’s DNA with Francis Anderton, The Hallmark School of Photography, Art Center College of Design and The American Society of Media Photographers. He currently serves on the Board of the American Society of Media Photographers – Los Angeles. Lapp has taught photography at The Braille Institute for the Blind in Los Angeles and also volunteers his photographic services to the Camp Laurel Foundation, a non-profit organization, assisting children, youth and families living with HIV and AIDS.
