Some people might like reading novels and others may enjoy scrapbooking, but I was always fascinated in recreating the vintage fashion for today’s modern girl. So what does that mean? I can explain in two words, Dollface Design. The words DollFace Design may come to you with a bit of confusion. So let me tell you the story behind it.
DollFace Design started back in 2001 as a dream. In high school I was fascinated with the life-“style” of the 40’s and 50’s. I would convince my mom to sew something for me to wear for school. So she did, and I was always feeling sassy in my classy clothing inspired by the eras I enjoyed the most. Since then I wanted every girl to feel the same way I did, and I knew one day I would be able to share that.
It took 7 years to reach my goal, but I did. In 2008 with my mom not only behind me, but as my seamstress, we developed DollFace Design; a clothing company that is dedicated to bringing back the style of the 40’s and 50’s.  We design things from hats, flowers, accessories, shirts, skirts, dresses and jackets. You name it, we got it or else we just make start making it. That’s right, “making it”. We hand make everything. My mom, Carmela Melecio, is a magician with a sewing machine, and I am a magician with coming up with more things for her to make. I try, but I am better with the hats, flower and designing ideas than sewing the pleads to our “Gentleman Prefer Dress that is available in gray or beige, and includes a thin fabric belt with buckle.”
We have three categories for our women’s clothing line. They are Retro Doll, Classy Doll, and Naughty Doll. So we ask, “What kind of doll are you?” We design for all types, shapes and sizes. Want to be the superstar of the night and swing in a cute blue number? Than get our Blue Star Jumper that fits any Retro Doll. Or maybe it is off to the races and a dress to stop those jockeys in their tracks is what you are looking for. Than the Derby Dress is for you, the Classy Doll. Or maybe, just maybe you want something that fits like a glove and hugs all the right places. In that case our Goth Silver and Black Vinyl outfit is what you Naughty Dolls need. Now you men that are reading this don’t feel left out, we also have the t-shirt that can get you them dolls.
Dollface Design is a growing company. Starting from a dream to a name. Going from Dollface Design to our very first Skirt. Then from that high waist-ed skirt to a full on catalog. From a woman’s line expanding to a men’s line. Then it was our first photo shoot and then our first fashion show. Going from Orange County to the Sin City of Las Vegas. From our friends wearing our clothes to famous pin ups in magazines wearing our clothes. It has been a fast moving two years, and we are barely starting up that engine to a road full of green lights and long nights. It is more than I ever dream of as a teenager in Tustin High School and I love every bit of it.
So maybe I don’t know the author of the novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and maybe I’m not a subscriber to Scrapbook Magazine, but I am the owner of a company that makes women feel like a true, classy, sexy and retro woman. I am a designer that brought back oldies but goodies of the 40’s and 50’s, the style along with the class. I am that dreamer that made her dreams no longer dreams, but a reality.
