Cody Davis began taking photographs with his mother’s camera at an early age and quickly it became his golden ticket out of rural Arkansas.
Davis started getting seriously interested in photography when he around the age of sixteen years old. After collaborating with a classmate who modeled through a regional talent agency sparks began to fly! It was his first true passion and one that will last an eternity. This led to him taking photos within the Northwest Arkansas Fashion Scene and gradually built a name for himself as a photographer.
At the age of eighteen he transferred from Prairie Grove, his high school of 300 people to Fayetteville, a high school of 1,800, and started taking photography classes, which further strengthened his bond with the craft. Davis started doing freelance photography for the Fayetteville Free Weekly and getting better acquainted with the small but thriving creative community in Fayetteville, which led to his name as a photographer in Northwest Arkansas.
After graduating high school in May 2010, Cody spent in a month and a half in New York City, exploring the city’s rich and vibrant culture, documenting the dreams coming true right before his very eyes. He explored museums like the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, the Whitney and Metropolitan Museum of Art, and destiny pushed him in that direction.
Love and last-minute application and acceptance to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago brought Davis to Chicago for the first time that fall. Unfortunately he had to move back home to Arkansas shortly thereafter due to skyrocketing tuition rates (and unpreparedness).
He began classes at the University of Arkansas in the fall of 2011, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and making the Dean’s and Chancellor’s lists, however he felt very limited in what he could do with his photography career in such a small market so he packed up his bags and headed back to Chicago in January 2012.
Cody is now an independent freelance photographer, often contributing to the Chicago Phoenix and Gapers Block, and plans on returning to school in Fall 2013.
He continues to grow as an artist and working professional and is always looking for new opportunities.
