About Me

I view the art of photography as a manipulative process, a distilling of reality into a personal vision. As such, I often use the tools of modern photography – different film stocks, filters, digital enhancement – to try to capture in an image the emotions I felt at the moment I snapped the camera's shutter.

Originally, I was planning for a degree in computer science because I wanted to program computer games. Since then however, I have re-found my love for photography, I had been involved in photography since childhood. Looking back I think I was influenced by my Mom, who is an retired art teacher, and my favorite Uncle who was involved with photography. If not for them I expect I never would have thought of pursuing a photography degree.  I would not start on this degree until the fall of 2007, and as of August 2009 I have graduated with a Bachelor of Science in both History and Design Arts.

While still in college I decided to open my own studio, a tad bit early though, as it was in part a result of losing my job at the time. Of course I had always intended to open my own studio, and I’m glad I did. It  has given me some much needed experience and insight. It would even indirectly lead me to a temporary job with Kodak Event Imaging Solutions in Branson, Missouri working at both the Showboat Branson Belle and Silver Dollar City as a photographer until the season ended.

Today I do portrait work for all manner of clients from the occasional high school senior portrait to children and even family portraits. I shoot with 35mm film cameras, using a variety of film and cameras, 120mm film camera, and with a variety of digital SLR; a Nikon, a Canon, and sometimes a Pentax. When out on assignment for a client I shoot solely with my Nikon or Canon. But when shooting for art or just myself I will switch off between my digitals, the 120mm and the 35mm cameras.

NOTE TO SPRINGFIELD, MO MODELS: I was made aware that there is a fee charged by the city of Springfield. To be able to shoot in Springfield city parks I have to pay a fee of $25 per hour. For this reason if you are a model in or around Springfield and you want to shoot in Springfield I will be charging you to do a shoot. This is to recoop my loses due to Springfield City Ordinances requiring me to pay a fee.
