You might want to check out the Pro Am Model & Photographer MeetUp in San Diego. It's run by a former model (and current photographer). It's a good way to get modeling experience, and network with photogs, stylists, and MUAs while building your portfolio. (And it's free for models.)

I am a working make-up artist in southern California and I would love to work with you on any shoots that you might have coming up. I have a full blown make-up and hair kit, but I am not the strongest in hair... make-up is definitely my strong point.
