About Me

How about a refresh for 2014? It's been a while, and I've been crazy busy, but now it's time to start over with the bio! Welcome!

I've been shooting professionally and as a hobby for roughly two decades, running the gamut from weddings to commercial landscapes to artistic to corporate. I shot film, so I'm not one of the "take a million photos and pick three good ones later!" photographers. I still shoot film often, and I almost always have a Polaroid in tow, ready for a few shots along with my digital work. I am NOT a retoucher, and I would prefer to get it right the first time. I have no problem fixing issues and smoothing some edges, but if you're looking for someone to shoot a million pictures of you in a closet with poor lighting and then give you (six months later) a few photos of you with noodles for arms as you float around in space surrounded by zombie unicorns and laser beams. It's just not what I do. I also tend to avoid the traditional "cute bikini-clad girl in the sand" stuff that happens every five seconds here at the coast. I can (and do) shoot natural light portraits in all conditions, but I prefer studio lighting, bold colors with the simplicity of a high-key white background, B&W figure studies, or wholly random nonsense (like putting someone in Ramen Noodles or buttered popcorn when I get bored).

My daily routine includes a lot of corporate headshots and product photography, so I'm often looking for other random creative outlets for fun when I've got time between paying the bills. I've got a backlog of ideas that I've wanted to shoot going back months and years, but I haven't always had the time to make them happen, and I'm hoping to change that. I also shoot a bit of stock photography, and occasionally need models for that (although it's often simple shoots), along with needing models for certain commercial projects with very restrictive in style. But primarily, I use Model Mayhem for the fun stuff.

I also run 2NDSPACE Studio in downtown Wilmington, which features a 14x18 full-turn white cyc wall with 2' radius corners, White Lightning strobes, acoustic damping (for video production), 10' ceilings, separate makeup/prep room, and ground floor entry, which is available for rent starting 3/1/14. I'll probably make an MM profile for the studio, but for now I've got one photo of the cyc wall in my portfolio here, and you can visit the site (which I'm currently finishing) at http://2ndspace.co to learn more.

Apart from all those words, I'm always looking for someone interested in shooting completely random, always exciting, and often absurd images when my schedule permits.

Lastly, I'm not here to "collect friends" with whom I'll never shoot, so please don't be offended if I don't accept a friend request just to get a higher number. Meanwhile, well, fuck it, let's shoot!
