About Me

HAINING: The Creator

Steve got his first camera at a young age. His mother developed negatives in the film photography industry so SLR cameras were always in the house and easy to use. Over the years he used that camera as a hobby taking photos wherever he went. In his teens he was a drummer for a couple bands and he toured Canada. The camera was with him every time he went to a new place so he could photograph what he saw in case he never went back. Little did he know he would travel across the country countless times in the future.

It was at that time he saved up everything he could to buy a digital SLR camera and get away from film. Haining was making a bit of cash and the odd case of beer from small record labels and other artists on tour who saw his work and wanted photos of their band or their performances. Around the same time Steve was also volunteering shooting fashion runways for charity. Both these gigs were what planted the seed in his mind that maybe he could do this for a job.

Working on weekends as a photographer taking what he could get he spent his week days as a graphics designer and a hydrographer for the federal government mapping the waterways for shipping vessels in Canada. Over the years he found himself taking days off from the government job to do shoots on weekdays and making up the hours on the other days. It got to the point where he had to chose between the two and going with his heart he chased photography!

His client list and reputation began to grow people were showing his work around and he was doing basic photo assist work for West Side Studio now and then to make extra cash. Shortly after that a Canadian Agency “Banko Media” picked up Steve as a director of still photography and motion. He was heavily involved in advertising and portrait photography with Banko and also took on rolls as a cinematographer, director and designer doing motion ads for things such as Toyota and Mohawk College. In that time he continued to do his own photography work which continued strongly with record labels and started to also include big brands and companies.

By 2015 Haining was traveling all over the world for his own photography and video and it was time for him to go back on his own. With all the skill sets he gained on top of his photography he decided to re-brand as “CreateOf” in order to showcase his video, graphics, and web design work on top of his photography portfolio. It was a smart move because not only did he win awards for it but it has allowed him to continue his career creating on all levels.

His relationships with the clients from when he first started are still there 9 years later you can still find him working with them and he continues to build new friendships and relationships with new clients all over the world.
