Nell contacted me asking for my thoughts into this image during the time we created it. While I briefly responded to her, I never intended to post for those that are curious, but to those who are, thank you.

The design of the image is that of environment and contrast. The environmental was primary and the subject secondary in my consideration.

My intent was to have a peaceful environmental with a contradicting subject to evoke emotion from the viewer, whether it be positive or negative.

I feel the nude figure expressing emotion within this setting achieves this as the mood itself is that of personal despair.

My considerations included a B&W version, however, it felt to cliche for the impact of this image leaving color as king.

Best,
Aaron

In response to Flash Studios and tonyphotograhpy...

Thank you for commenting on this image. I have forwarded your remarks to the photographer, as he created the images that you see. As for my thoughts? I think it evokes the fragility of the human condition as it finds solace and mockery in the timeless strength of nature. (Even when nature appears violent, pelicans bob along waves and weather the storm, while sailors pray fervently for St. Elmo to spare their lives.) On further artistic comparison, I feel this image bears the inverse (dare say, the negative?) of a Byron lyric,
Horribly beautiful! but on the verge,
From side to side, beneath the glittering morn,
An Iris sits, amidst the infernal surge,
Like Hope upon a death-bed, and, unworn
Its steady dyes, while all around is torn
By the distracted waters, bears serene
Its brilliant hues with all their beams unshorn:
Resembling, 'mid the torture of the scene,
Love watching Madness with unalterable mien.

I agree with Flash Studios - such a peaceful tranquil river scene especially with the long shutter speed, but a feeling of anguish and torment emanating from the models's pose - so what the hell is going on in this pic? Quite thought provoking and, therefore, a good image. Well done.

interesting yet troubling shot.. tranquil scenery, yet your pose looks constricted and anguished... I'd be interested in knowing your thought on the shot.
