July 03, 2008 8:53pm What I like so much about this photo: I like the setting, how it makes sense: water, bathing suit, etc. I like the shade, which makes me think of cool part of the day, like sunset, and how the shaded light is even and soft. Melissa, in this situation, brings to mind some kind of water goddess. (I recall a film I saw a long time ago, about an native woman who lived alone in a secluded part of the Amazon river. But, she's actually a fresh water dolphin (white, or pink) who magically becomes a beautiful woman at different times for reasons I can't remember. Could Melissa be that woman?) I like her expression, how it's direct, but guarded, and her posture is turned from the camera, but still vulnerable. I like how her pose plays up her features. It's not awkward, or fake. I like that she's in the muddy colored sand, yet she's not disgraced by it. These are reasons why I've added this picture to my list of shots I wish came out of my camera with me doing the shooting.
