June 26, 2008 8:50pm pretty simple actually - I lined the umbrella with foil, and tied a strobe to the shaft, pointing up. Triggered it wirelessly, so the flash reflected out of the umbrella creating the pool of light. dodged/burned a bit in PS to emphasize the effect, and that's about it!
