About Me

SHAREA SAMUELS

From dancer, to model, surfer and then actress, there’s nothing that Sharea Samuels hasn’t done. Only in here 20’s Sharea has accomplished more than what other women her age can only dream of…..

Born to Saudi Arabian / Jamaican parents, they should’ve named her “energy”, instead they chose Sharea. A free spirit and one that definitely doesn’t play by the rules. Her first release of creativity was through street dance. Sharea trained with the RBKC Dance Troupe and was able to perform every year for 4 years for the French Independence Day in Cannes. By 2002 her dance career became more serious as she was selected out of hundreds of hopefuls to be a backing dancing for Asian artist Leslie Loh. This was pure luxury as Sharea was flown out to Shanghai and Taiwan while touring with Leslie for a period of 4 weeks.

From dancer to actress? Without any acting experience, Sharea was cast in a movie called, “Bullet Boy” where she played a supporting lead role. Most would call it luck, but it’s actually all about being in the right place at the right time, and something called pure raw talent. Sharea was “street casted” by Des Hamilton, a casting director who she was introduced to by someone she knew. Without any hesitation, Sharea attended the audition and a couple of days later she was on the set of a film.

With the movie taking a whole year to be released, it can be more than a little frustrating trying to get a role in another movie when your work hasn’t been seen by many. Because she couldn’t sit still for a second, Sharea decided to join the British Pathfinders and trained to become a Para-trooper (a military person who jumps out of planes normally carrying medical aid or weapons). Sharea trained for 6 months with them and learnt to parachute out of a plan and land safely. After all this training, Sharea was able to take part in the 60th Anniversary for World War II; a project that a local community centre had put together to allow young people to see the role of the ethnic minority during World War II.

After the release of  Bullet Boy, Sharea moved to Jamaica and that’s where she met Paul Buckner, a producer. After hearing about “Bullet Boy”, Paul took Sharea under his wing and trained her at his company. She went from being a PA to a production manager and then assistant director in the space of 2 years. Eventually everyone wanted Sharea to be part of their productions, either acting or behind the cameras. She was cast for Jamaican short film “missed” staring the talented Roger Guenevera Smith also as lead actress in Jamaican feature film “Twang” You can’t live on the beach and not take advantage of it…

While in Jamaica, Sharea developed a love for surfing. She trained everyday in 2007 so much that she became good enough to enter competitions. She was ranked 5th in Jamaica and 7th in the Caribbean. Soon she became a part of the Jamaican National team.

With all the hype of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and South Africa, it’s very difficult to not want to experience the African country for yourself. In January 2009, Sharea went to South Africa to do a few commercials and film work. Unfortunately she didn’t stay for long, but it was a worthwhile stay.

Coming back to the UK Sharea has been signed to an agency, and has since been here, featured in various commercials from Kelloggs Special K , to Adidas, and had roles in Fringe Theatre productions Oliver Twist, and short film 3 Days in London.

She has recently completed shooting a feature film which she plays lead role in the British comedy, “Betsy and Leonard” Due for release in August 2011.

A book could still be written about this young woman’s bravery, strength and energy, but she’d probably still want to accomplish more. The world is her dance floor and so much of her talent is still to be seen.
