About Me

Enter the child with a dream…

Even as a little girl I knew I was an artistic individual.  I was at my best and felt most complete whenever I was expressing myself creatively.  If there were crayons, I colored.  If there was music, I danced.  If there were brushes, I painted.

So no one was surprised when, at the tender age of nine, I decided I was going to be a fashion designer.  And not just any old designer but a World Famous, Dominating Fashion Week type of designer.  And for the next nine years I dedicated myself to achieving this goal.  Art lessons, Sketching non-stop, pouring over fashion magazines, sewing beautiful garments, even earning my two-year Fashion Design Certificate in my senior year of High School.

But just when I was about to launch my design career with what I fantasized was a one-way trip to New York, “real life”, as it will do, intervened and sent me careening off on a more altruistic path.  Needless to say, allowing this dream to die was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do but it wasn’t the end.

Enter the social worker…

Having veered off my original path, it was left to me to choose another career.  Something I felt I could be proud of.  So after some soul searching about who I wanted to be and the kind of impact I wanted to make, I chose Social Work.  I felt this would appropriately pair my desire to help others with my desire to work with children. I earned my Bachelors of Social Work from Virginia Intermont College (Go Cobras!) and shortly thereafter my Masters of Social Work from Radford University (Go Highlanders!).

I was immediately hired after graduation by a local Department of Social Services as their Foster Care Social Worker and have managed a successful career serving children and their families for years.

Enter the photographer…

Social Work will always be rewarding to me in the following ways:  I cherish every relationship I had with children who needed someone to be on their side.  I am honored that I could be that person and did my level best to improve the quality of their lives.  When I could help them return to a happier home, I celebrated with them.  When I couldn’t return them to their homes, I held them, reassured them and helped them adjust to a new life.  These are things I will never forget and will always appreciate how they touched my life.

Despite all this, the desire to fulfill my creative nature continued to grow and eventually could no longer be ignored.  So I began actively seeking a new outlet and found it behind the lens of a camera.

These days I focus all my free time and energy into developing myself and my skills as a photographer and rarely leave home without my equipment.  The sense of calm I feel gazing through that tiny but perceptive eye satisfies something essential to the core of my being.  It is a wholly rewarding experience to be able to express myself by capturing the many moments of life and in turn providing others with lasting memories.

I pride myself on being a photographer with an inspired imagination, a strong sense of tone and mood and an eye for pleasing compositions.

Photography is my life.  And if we should work together I look forward to sharing my passion with you and yours.
