I've spent over 24 years pushing the boundaries of the photographic medium. The themes in my work pursue spiritual narratives - contrasting what’s perceived with the five senses, against the unseen metaphysical realities of life that lay beneath the surface. As spiritual qualities are not something one can observe with the eye, my work employs visual metaphor and symbolism to hint at underlying truths and questions of the human condition, with the possibility of transcending it.

I work in large format film (4x5” negatives) and digital capture, and print my own images by hand in both traditional wet and dry darkrooms. I also utilize oil paint (‘Oilgraphs’) incorporating vibrant abstraction into monochromatic visions, as well as encaustic and mixed media, emphasizing our connection to the Divine.

Interested in modeling for my personal work, or a workshop?

What I am looking for in someone to work with, is that you have an interest to collaborate creatively in the work, and ideally you can relate, in your own way, to something spiritual--something beyond the mere physical world that our five senses perceive. Above and beyond that, it is not important if you are young, old, black, white, inexperienced, professional, large, skinny, etc. My goal is to find beauty everywhere--not just in where modern society perpetually looks for it.

If you are interested in the possibility of collaborating, please answer the following questions, which will assist me in developing visual narratives based on who you are as a unique human being. I believe that when the image ideas are something you can more closely relate to, they will be more meaningful to you, and the finished piece will hold more intrinsic significance, and ability to inspire others:

1. Do you have any tattoos, tan lines, breast augmentations, etc?
2. Are you comfortable with your figure/posing nude?
3. What interests you about my work?
4. What is your creative background? (paint/draw/compose music/write/etc.)
5. What are your strengths/unique qualities?
6. What issues do you hold close to your heart?
7. What do you REALLY want? Not what society, your parents, or your friends say. What truly lights the fire within your soul?
8. What makes you forget about the world around you?
9. What emotions would you like to feel more often?
10. If you had a billion dollars in the bank, and no longer needed to work, how would you choose to fill those hours?
11. If you had all the people in the world listening to you, what would you tell them?
12. If you could do something with a guarantee that you would not fail, what would you choose to do?
13. If you were diagnosed with only one week left to live, and in that time you could create a photographic work of art (as a model) that preserved the one most important truth you have learned in this lifetime - so that your friends and family could hold on to this truth - what would that photograph look like?

14. Are you interested in collaboration simply as a means to make money, or would you prefer to receive images of the art we create?

People I have worked with: (contact information for verification purposes available by request)

"Working with Joel was incredible. His vision and purpose of art are truly beautiful. I was nervous about being photographed nude. I felt imperfect and a bit vulnerable. Joel told me that he wants to take photos that show how nature emulates a woman's body and how a woman's body emulates nature. He photographs women of all colors and shapes to show how differences are beautiful, and also how all is one. He wants to show truth in his work. He was completely respectful, and I have now done three separate photo shoots with him. This has actually made me feel more beautiful in my own skin. I have stood naked on a mountain top as a woman (not an object), and worked with Joel to capture a moment of truth and beauty. That is powerful!"

~Ellenor Dwyer, Granville, OH

"Joel Belmont is one of the most passionate photographers that I know. His work depicts a constant search for beauty in every form. He is very precise with all his posing, lighting and the outcome of the image during a shoot. I had a blast and I look forward to shooting with him again...real soon I hope. I have and will continue to recommend Joel's work to models and photographers alike. His work is an inspiration to many."

~Aloha Walter, St. Louis, MO, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=17774

"I was reluctant at first because I didn't know Joel and how it would be to work with him.  Also, it was my first time at a 'real' photo shoot.  But as soon as the camera was up and we were ready to take the pictures, everything was very simple, relaxed and easy going.  And the photographs are absolutely amazing.  I never thought I could look the way I do in those pictures.  I love the way Joel thinks and puts his photographs together.  There is always more than just the picture and the people in them. His pictures have meaning and tell stories."

~Gwen, Woerrstadt, Germany, http://www.myspace.com/britpoptart

"I was fortunate to have Joel approach me to do some figure work while I was pregnant. Initially I was unsure about posing nude but after viewing some of his work I decided to trust his vision. During the shoot I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable I was working with Joel. He was professional and focused from start to finish yet very relaxed with his approach. It was a truly liberating experience and I hope to work with Joel again in the future!"

~Karmen D., Carbondale, CO

"Working with Joel Belmont was a wonderful experience. This was my first foray into modeling, and I found him to be completely professional, organized, and efficient with our time. The prints I received for my time were excellent--both in the quality of printing and the photography itself."

~Katie Lempert, Boston, MA

"Working with Joel was the best experience in my career so far, as I'm fairly new to it. Not only was I completely comfortable due to his professionalism, but I was extremely impressed with his attitude as well. I think it's somewhat difficult to find a photographer in this area of modeling (figure work) who can keep consistent and constant professionalism. We worked together well; it seemed every time I moved he found a good pose in my natural stance. I highly recommend to anyone who can find the time and who is close enough to work with Mr. Belmont! His wife's very cool; she does amazing work as well. I can't wait to see the finished product!"

~Laci, Grand Junction, CO, http://www.modelmayhem.com/misslane88

"I have to be honest; when I first contemplated going to do work with Joel I was nervous about the nudity. I have never ever been naked in a room full of people except for the day that I gave birth to my son. I must have taken two steps forward and one step back at least a dozen times that day before making it to the photo shoot. Once I entered the room, I was instantly calmed by Joel's professional demeanor. He was so detached from the shoot in a way that I felt comfortable that he wasn't judging me, but still so involved that I could see his mind seeing my body as art. It is truly an experience to work with Joel.
I was afraid I would leave such a photo shoot feeling vulnerable, like I had given a piece of myself up. Instead, I left feeling empowered and beautiful. Anyone that has the opportunity to experience a shoot with Joel should feel honored and very excited."

~Marie, Phoenix, AZ

"Working with Joel was a creative adventure, a wonderful exploration in art. He is a fun, passionate, and meticulous creator. He is professional and hospitable and were I closer I would jump at the chance to work with him again."

~Nevaeh, Redlands, CA, http://www.modelmayhem.com/NevaehLleh

"Joel Belmont was truly a pleasure to work with.  Myself, having been drowning in cliche glamour shoots and repeat photographic themes, Joel's style, approach, and creativity are truly refreshing.  He makes you feel, as a model, that you are part of a masterpiece, and not a mere morning photo opportunity.  He treated me with the utmost respect as an artist, listened to my ideas, captured my aura, and integrated MY creative approach in the images with grace.  Though the shoot was slightly more complicated and time consuming than typical shoots utilizing digital equipment, I appreciated the extra time and effort Joel took to get "the shot".  I believe his images will be an outstanding addition to my portfolio for years to come.  Truly an elegant, classy, and genuinely artistic approach to the world of photography."

~Aveyah, Phoenix, AZ, http://www.modelmayhem.com/Aveyah

"I commissioned Joel to make images of my figure in the landscape, which I would like to hang in my home.  It had taken me a while to find the right photographer--an artist capable of bringing the visual beauty of the human figure to a photographic work of art in an elegant and compelling, yet discrete artistic light.  Joel's artistic talents are just that.

I'm not a model - I've never experienced a photo shoot of this sort - but I longed to be photographed as a figure revealed in such a way that the viewer experiences the ordinary through a most un-ordinary lens. An un-ordinary lens of which I turned to Joel to render.

Never have I experienced something so liberating... a slight moment of hesitation as I began to undress, completely dissolved after Joel’s professional and artistic demeanor was revealed behind the camera.  I expected to feel completely exposed and vulnerable during the shoot, but quite the contrary.  I felt absolutely beautiful!

His passion and zest for art allow him to coach you through to his visions in an utmost respectful manor.  I feel privileged and honored to create visions of art with such talent as Joel's.“

~Randa Morgan, Aspen CO

"Joel's approach to creating photographs comes across as extremely professional and focused.  He is respectful of both the art of photography itself and the people involved in the process, as well as being open to any discussion or ideas the model may have; this creates an atmosphere that is beautifully relaxed and yet productive.  I felt at all times comfortable with Joel as a photographer, and have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone considering modeling for him."

~Anna Cherry, New Zealand, http://www.facebook.com/people/Anna-Cathrine-Cherry/639517244

"Joel Belmont is a very talented professional upstanding photographer. He was considerate and easy to work with. He also requested my input at times and that was refreshing. I would recommend working with him anytime. We worked on a stormy weekend day - it was cold and windy, but after viewing the images I realized it was well worth it!"

~Lucianna Hutchings, Monterey, CA, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=5626

"Joel is by far one of the most talented and professional photographers I have had the pleasure of working with. He has a clear idea of what he wants to capture and the skills to realize his vision yet he welcomes new ideas and works hard to incorporate creative input from his models.  Working with him was a pleasure and I couldn't be happier with the results. Suffice it to say, the images Joel and I created are not only beautiful but some of the best work in my entire portfolio (as many who have viewed it have commented)!  Joel is professional, talented and easy to work with. I highly recommend him both as an artist and a professional."

~Excelsus, San Francisco, CA, M.M. #10487

"Working with Joel was an absolute pleasure.  I was uncomfortable at first because he only specializes in nudes but he promised to work with my comfort level and he did.  He uses an old fashioned camera which was quite amusing but overall we had fun at our shoot.  He was very professional, very courteous, and very respectful with my boundaries and limits. I would highly recommend him to any model."

~Hannah, Tempe, AZ, http://www.modelmayhem.com/ehp

"My aunt says you're the most unique photographer on this website. She says the photos are very emotional and will inspire a lot of people. I agree with her after she explained that pictures aren't just another pretty face, they have meaning and yours are awesome!!!"

~Piper, age 12, Antioch, CA, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=99667

"I really enjoyed working with you. It is so refreshing to work with a true artist, not just a photographer. You are both, and I can hardly wait to see the results of our collaboration! I look forward to working with you again. And if you ever want a model's reference, feel free to use my name. I have nothing but good to say about you!"

~Ashley Rae, Loveland, CO, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=27148

"Working with Joel not only empowers me with self-confidence but is also really fun. He is extremely professional, yet easy going and makes me feel very comfortable throughout the entire photo shoot. Modeling is not something that I saw myself doing, but I am glad I am doing it, especially since I am working with someone who is so creative and talented. My overall experience has been one of tranquility and developing an even greater appreciation for all things that are beautiful in this world."

~DeAnna, Glenwood Springs, CO, http://www.myspace.com/athyr

"Working with Joel was a great experience.  He is very professional and passionate about his work, there was not a single moment I felt weird or uncomfortable working with him.  Joel's patience and assistance made me feel cared for and appreciated, it was truly a pleasure to be a part of such beautiful and unique work. I have already recommended him to other potential models and will continue to do so.  Joel's pictures are breathtaking and timeless."

~Claudia R., Carbondale, CO

"Working with Joel was an interesting experience. As well as learning a lot about studio photography, I learned what it takes to model for a fine art photographer. His instruction is professional and respectful at all times and he makes one feel beautiful and feminine. The shoot was quite empowering. He makes beautiful art."

~Victoria John, South Africa

"You have an amazing artistic gift. I had no idea what those were going to look like, but they turned out beautiful. Most photographers are looking for a "good picture" but you go way beyond that and turn it into a story. I'm glad I worked with you."

~Amy, Portland, OR, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=17131

"I found Joel to be professional and focused on his craft. I felt completely at ease when he took pictures of me in the final stages of my first pregnancy. His skill and creativity shows in the images and I'm really pleased with the non-mainstream quality of them."

~Rachel M., Carbondale, CO

"I'd like to say that my experience with you was a life-changing venture into the feminine spirit. I was able to explore the beauty of the body I was blessed in a space that you provided. This space allowed me to feel self-actualized in a lifted manner, which is seldom provided in our society. Since a young age we are constantly hammered with tools to analyze our bodies for improvements and adjustments. In moments behind the camera with you Joel, not only was I naked physically but also my spirit was raw with present acceptance of who I was then and there. MY soul felt more beautiful in those moments then I had felt in moments of intimacy. Looking at other photos by you I see the beauty of realness, of sheer physical and emotional beauty. I can only speak of congratulations and appreciation to you for allowing myself and so many others to have insight into this dimension of the soul."

~Meghan, Aspen, CO

"Joel Belmont has an outstanding body of work. Not only does it display incredible technical knowledge, composition, and vision, it also goes deeper than a bunch of images created for mere aesthetic value. His work is meaningful as well as beautifully created.

There is more to humans than the way they look and an artist whose work successfully expresses multiple aspects of humanity deserves a grand amount of respect.  Additionally, Joel does not repeat the same old thing which makes him very innovative in the field of photography.

As far as modeling for Joel, he is an absolute joy to work with. He is very high-spirited and easy going. Joel also maintains the utmost professionalism and is perceptive to the models ideas and needs. The resulting images from modeling for Joel were fantastic.

I have worked with many great photographers in my 4-year modeling career and Joel is definitely among the very best."

~Kat, New York, NY, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=10312 http://www.katlove.com

"I volunteered to model for Joel Belmont with very little information about him besides a brief look at his website and a glowing recommendation of both Joel's character and his work from a close friend of mine.

I have some modeling experience in my past but was not entirely confident in my abilities to model for the type of figure work Joel is known for. Joel instantly put me at ease by explaining his work and process and by interacting on a very personal and yet professional level.  Joel was continually encouraging and helpful, giving clear directions and yet allowing flexibility and a level of personal creativity and freedom.  Joel also demonstrated a great interest in getting to know me in order to increase my comfort and to make the work more meaningful.  Joel is not the type of photographer who acts as if his models are simply objects used to develop his own artistry, Joel instead works with his models to include them in that art.

I was deeply impressed with Joel's level of professionalism when it came to figure modeling; at no time did I feel uncomfortable or awkward.  Throughout the sessions, I was at all times certain that I could address any discomfort should it arise and be confident Joel would respect my feelings.  It was an enriching and inspiring experience to model for an artist as powerful and yet down-to-earth as Joel Belmont. I will definitely work with him in the future should the opportunity arise and greatly look forward to following his brilliant career."

~Evelyn Cammon, Glenwood Springs, CO

"I thoroughly enjoyed working with you.  You were a breath of fresh air in the midst of those many sketchy photographers with whom I have worked in the past.  Your art is genuine, as is your talent."

~Melody, Denver, CO, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=24988

"Joel was laid-back, respectful, and kind. Working with him was a fun adventure. I'd recommend him to any model, and his work is absolutely stunning."

~Kate D., Portland, OR

"Joel Belmont was truly a pleasure to work with. This was the first time I have ever posed nude and while I have worked with many photographers, this was just as easy. From the moment i met him I was very relaxed. He was extremely professional and kept me from feeling even the least bit awkward. Highly recommended!!"

~Cami Owens, Glenwood Springs, CO, http://www.myspace.com/camrenee

"Your technique is amazing, and your work with the inner beauty of women is exceptional...

Joel is an easy photographer to work with.  He communicates well which allows his artistic eye to express itself very well.  Joel is very personable and I think every model would be comfortable in his studio.  Above all, Joel's artwork speaks for itself.  He knows his camera and his artwork; and brings them together is artistic quality.  I would be honored to work with him again."

~Elizabeth Callister, Grand Junction, CO, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=294137

"There are qualities that set few artists apart from creating art and creating great art. Joel exemplifies all of the qualities it takes to create great art; patience, knowledge of his tools and materials, willingness to experiment, openness to critical critiques and collaboration, formal knowledge of the principals of art and design, and an immense passion for his medium and the world that involves it. When photographing me, Joel was flexible, fun, concerned, sensitive and extremely professional. He is a pleasure to work with!"

~Erica, Carbondale, CO, http://www.myspace.com/wernsmann

"It was a very cool experience working with Joel and meeting his lovely wife. Joel is respectful, professional and fast shooter. I'm going to recommend some of my friends to work with him on future projects."

~Kimberly Kane, Los Angeles, CA, http://www.modelmayhem.com/kimberlykane

"Joel Belmont was a joy to work with. He took the time to explore my artistic desires as well as my inner personality. I was made to feel incredibly comfortable throughout the entire shoot. I would recommend Joel to any model as a necessary step to enhance their understanding of photography and art.

...You made me realize that there is a huge difference between creating a beautiful picture and creating true art. I would love the opportunity to work with you again in the future!"

~Kimberly Miller, Gros Gerau, Germany, http://www.freewebs.com/kimberlymodel

"Joel Belmont was amazing to work with. I was a little nervous at first because I had never done any kind of modeling before much less one that was going to be completely nude. But talking to him and his wife and getting to know Joel and his professionalism really put me at ease. And then it was a lot of fun. I first met Joel through the internet and instantly fell in love with his art and I knew I wanted to work with him.  His art is such a collage of beauty. From being simple and pretty to maybe being a little rough around the edges it paints an amazing range of emotion.  Most of the photos we did came together by complete accident from just talking and letting my guard down to make an interesting pose or smile.  I am looking forward to seeing the photos."

~Heather, Carbondale, CO, http://www.myspace.com/174561778

"I must admit that the closer I got to the day of the photos, I got a little more nervous.  I still had some reservations about not actually knowing you, I guess the older I get the more cautious I am.  My worries couldn't have been further from the truth.  You were very professional about the shoot and I felt completely comfortable.  It was a great experience.  I was and am so happy to be a part of your thought process as you try to convey your thoughts to the world."

~Jennifer Dolecki, Aspen, CO

"I have never worked nude before, nor am I a model, and Joel and I worked together on a day when I was feeling particularly vulnerable.  Working with Joel was not only easy, simple, and completely comfortable - it was empowering, encouraging and certainly confidence building. I was surprised to find myself completely comfortable very quickly.  Joel looks at the female body and its surroundings in a way that releases any attachment to yourself and lets you focus, with him, entirely on the final image, on the photograph. If you are interested in being a part of Joel's work, I absolutely encourage you not to miss the chance to do so."

~Teal, Aspen, CO, http://www.myspace.com/tealbrown

"Joel has an incredible talent for bringing the spirit of life and 'the moment' into his images, and finding something that expresses the uniqueness and individuality of his subjects while still relating the image to a larger, grander concept. It's really a joy being able to work with him and help bring such beautiful images and ideas to life."

~Lily, Denver, CO, MM #149039

"I had my first artistic nude shots by Joel Belmont. I was nervous, but he was extremely professional and made me feel comfortable shooting with him. He was very focused and knew exactly what he wanted from the shoot, and I'm very excited about how the shots will turn out. I would be honored to work with him again, and I had a very positive experience with him."

~MistressMalice, Los Angeles, CA, http://www.modelmayhem.com/LondonGunn

“From the very beginning you were a gentleman, in the end, you still remained one. You have a vision like no other, perseverance few can match and purity of heart only a handful of people can understand. Thank you, tremendously for the work you do.”

~Elena, San Jose, CA, http://www.modelmayhem.com/1123829

“Thank you for the interesting shoot last week. You were very professional as well as comfortable to work with. I would very much like to work with you again and see what we can create!!”

~Raven, Boulder, CO, http://www.modelmayhem.com/raven18

“Thank you for the incredible shoot! I had so much fun working with you and the other models. You have such a heart of passion for true art... fantastic artistic guidance! It was so interesting working with the equipment you had and you really know what you want and how to guide and encourage us in the direction you need. Indeed a true professional and delight. I can't wait to make it up to the Glenwood area and shoot with you there!”

~Lisa, Denver, CO, http://www.modelmayhem.com/TantalizeM3

“It was a pleasure meeting Joel and his lovely wife. I left with the feeling that we had created something worthwhile that will evoke meaning for others.”

~Meghan, Santa Cruz, CA, http://www.modelmayhem.com/meghanclaire

“Working with Joel was an amazing experience. He is very professional and by far the best photographer I have ever had the pleasure to work with. His work is incredible. ~LXV, Los Angeles, CA, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=198400

"I did go see the oilgraph at the Aspen Art Museum that I was in--it was very cool. There were two guys looking at the picture standing like 4 inches in front of Aneissa and I and one of them asked the other "so you recognize any of them?" lol we thought that was pretty funny. There was also a picture of it in the Aspen Daily News. We are going to go see it again next week."

~Laura, Crystal Lake, IL, http://www.myspace.com/thecrazzylady

"I had the opportunity to work with Joel Belmont recently. And I say opportunity because not everyone is lucky enough to work with such a good photographer.

Not only is his work unique, but so is the kind of person Joel is. From setting up the shoot, to actually doing the shoot, I was able to see how patient and kind he is. I felt comfortable around Joel and was able to connect with him very quickly. The shoot went well and I am amazed with his talent. He is definitely blessed with his skills, and yet he is still so down to earth and such a neat person. I would definitely recommend Joel to anyone possibly thinking about working with him. You will be impressed by his work and by Joel just being himself."

~Alisha P., Aurora, CO, http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=123800

"I came from Rochester, New York to work with Joel Belmont in Aspen, Colorado. My experience in working with him is that he is professional and serious when it comes to creating art. I'm so glad that he listened to what I said about my deafness and we incorporated something that would portray that into the art. Not many other photographers care about my deafness; all they want is to photograph my breasts, butt, sexuality on a comfort level, or silly personality. Joel's different from them--his work is simply focused on grace and beauty. I truly had a blast. As a seasonal traveling art model, I'd highly recommend traveling art models to come collaborate with Joel Belmont on his projects, sightsee the beautiful place, and try his wife's irresistible homemade cookies--yummy!"

~Donna Nguyen, Rochester, NY, http://www.modelmayhem.com/ipoopdaily

"I was initially very nervous about working with Joel because though it says I'm comfortable with nudity on my profile, I had never actually done any work in that line. He was very professional and the shoot turned out to be an amazing experience. I never felt uncomfortable and I truly believe that we created something beautiful that day. It was so much fun and I was at ease the entire time. He spends time actually getting to know who he's working with too, so you really feel like you're apart of a team when you're at one of his shoots. His wife was extremely sweet and talented too! smile It was like being with old friends...

Overall, it was a life-enhancing experience and I would definitely recommend and encourage others to work with him. Especially if you want to create photographs that will be valuable and creative."

~Bianca, Longmont, CO, http://www.modelmayhem.com/bdarkangelb

"I had the opportunity to work with Joel Belmont on the Labia Project. The shoot was held at a local woman's home that was also involved with the project and there were several other woman there for the project as well. Joel was professional and I could tell he has a lot of experience with photography and working with models. Even though I was posing naked in front of a new person which could make me a little shy, Joel was professional and kind. I felt comfortable and he was respectful. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished images and am interested in working with Joel for future projects."

~Mandy, San Francisco, CA

"Thank you for making me a part of The Labia Project. I really appreciate your intention and I know the results will be beautiful. It takes guts and a certain sensitivity to approach a subject like this, and I admire what you’re doing. You’re a complete professional and I would work with you again in a second. You made me and the other models feel comfortable, especially given the delicacy of your artistic vision for this project."

~Maria, San Francisco, CA, http://www.modelmayhem.com/MariaJ573086

"If I could some up my experience with Joel into one word I would probably say: comfortable.  Just as the word implies Joel made me feel comfortable the whole time I was working with him. He really shows beauty in a female figure by grasping something in each image that symbolizes something innate, internal and wise in all women."

~Marta, Davenport, IA, http://www.myspace.com/currierm

"Recently I had the pleasure of working with Joel Belmont. Besides exhibiting the highest professionalism, working with Joel was just a lot of fun! His intensity & passion for what he does made for an incredible and memorable experience. The end creation, his photography, is just breathtaking. The work speaks for itself. I very much enjoyed working with Joel, and would love to work with him again in the future."

~Snow McCain, Ft. Collins, CO, OMP #124867

"I met Joel at a local community fund raiser and he asked if I'd be interested in modeling for the pregnancy series he is pursuing with his fine art photography. By viewing his website and visiting his home studio I was able to immediately appreciate his artistic vision, ideas, insight and quality of his work. Working with Joel near the end of my pregnancy was easy and fun. He has a professional yet laid back manner and is easy to communicate with. His foremost concern is comfort of the model and we were able to quickly move through many poses to capture a variety of images. His sweet wife Lili and two kitties joined us in the home studio which even further lightened the already easy-going atmosphere. I'm glad I decided to work with Joel and know I'll cherish these unique and wonderful images of my first pregnancy."

~Jessica Fuhr Nichol, Glenwood Springs, CO

"I see Joel's work as pure art. He wants to show the beauty of the creation of God through the human body. He sees the human body as  part of nature, like a beautiful mountain, a majestic tree, a river that catches our attention with its magnificence.  This was my first time posing and he made me feel completely confident, because he didn't ask for experience, he helped guide me in the poses, and knew how to make a simple adjustment to get a good shot. Even being nude didn't scare me or make me feel embarrassed, because Joel is so peaceful and calm, and he handles the situation so naturally, that you forget you are completely naked. It is just natural. To me it was a great and valuable experience to be part of his work, of such art."

~Cassia Martins, Brazil, http://www.myspace.com/cassiamartins

"It is hard to say what has not already been said about Joel Belmont. I have never been so comfortable in front of a Photographer before and found that it was all due to his talent and professionalism. Even though we only worked for a short amount of time he left a deep impression on me that I will forever be grateful for. He was also so willing to let me assist him through out the project with the other models, and provided me a chance to see a different form of art through his lens. Working with Joel is a great honor as he has inspired me with a deeper understanding of what The Art of Nude truly is. He also helped me gain more self confidence in modeling in that form from only a first photo shoot with him. I look forward to working with him later on in the future and wish it was sooner."

"Thank you so much for you tag, but you are the one with outstanding work, really, its art! One should be ever so honored to work with you. Your art captures so much unspoken emotion and quality of story. One can truly feel the art. Your portfolio speaks volumes to me and if you are at all interested I would love to have the chance to collaborate and work together.  I have transportation and would be willing to travel to if need be."

"I believe working with you will be a real treat and an asset to how I view photography in the future. The testimonies people have written who have worked with you already are very powerful and I would like to experience that first hand. I want to create something beautiful and powerful with you. I am hoping to be someone you can use on a project-based basis, in that we can work together to execute and idea in which neither of us are "hiring" the other. I'm not looking to pay or be paid, I merely want the make art from which both of us can benefit."

"Right before I was due to give birth I met your wife... she approached me with your card and said that you were doing some work with pregnant models, oh how I wish I would've called!! I LOVE YOUR WORK!!!!!"

~Chelsea, Glenwood Springs, CO

"I like the sincerity of your work. It has a quality of reality that is often lacking in the plastic and neon pop images that we are barraged with on a daily basis through mainstream media. I like the fact that it is human beings in your art, those that give the viewer the opportunity to identify with the image at a level that implies that they could be the subject themselves-a sort of manifestation of self mirrored in the other. I am interested because each image you take seems to be saying something of value...although your intent is not always perfectly clear, your work lends itself to interpretation, discussion, and perhaps at it's very finest, even a good fight."

"I wanted to tell you that I am happy with the photos from our shoot here in Washington. You have a compassionate, inventive, and genuine vision, and I'm proud to have worked with you."

"Joel Belmont can be found hiking with his assistant and models in tow in nearly every national treasure around the western United States. You will hear mutterings of the Holy Grail frequently as he tromps through the wilderness, much like that little cute man named Ansel Adams. I have had the pleasure of working with Joel and I can tell you that it was a grand experience. I have also had the pleasure of knowing Joel for quite a few years through his participation on my discussion board. Quite witty this guy.

Through our 1-hour shoot there were numerous images that I would have loved to have prints of. I chose four of the best prints from the shoot and was delighted to receive some of the most well printed images that I have ever received from a photographer. All were archivally printed with such a velvety, luscious tone that they possibly could have been printed by top master photographers, and out of some master photographers that I have worked with his printing was far better. He takes great pride in his work."

Also, my wife, Lili Belmont (http://www.LiliBelmont.com) is an astounding artist if you are in need of a well-tailored yet unique commission for your home or office, or if you would like to model for her work. You can contact her through her website, or through me here.

"I have often thought that if photography were difficult in the true sense of the term -- meaning that the creation of a simple photograph would entail as much time and effort as the production of a good watercolor or etching -- there would be a vast improvement in total output.  The sheer ease with which we can produce a superficial image often leads to creative disaster." ~Ansel Adams

"If you are not willing to see more than is visible, you won't see anything."  ~Ruth Bernard

"I didn't want to tell the tree or weed what it was. I wanted it to tell me something and through me express its meaning in nature." ~Wynn Bullock

"I think photographs should be provocative and not tell you what you already know. It takes no great powers or magic to reproduce somebody's face in a photograph. The magic is in seeing people in new ways." ~Duane Michals

"To photograph truthfully and effectively is to see beneath the surfaces and record the qualities of nature and humanity which live or are latent in all things." ~Ansel Adams

"Photography is a medium of formidable contradictions. It is ridiculously easy and almost impossibly difficult."  ~Edward Steichen

"If you are not passionately devoted to an idea, you can make very pleasant pictures but they won't make you cry."  ~Ruth Bernhard
